Fire and arson investigation is perhaps one of the most challenging fields a fire investigator can pursue. Fire investigations are complex, arduous and inherently dangerous. The State Fire Marshal does not investigate every fire that occurs within the state, however, upon request, the State Fire Marshal will respond to assist city, county, state and federal agencies in investigating fires and explosion-related incidents.

Because of the complexities found in fire investigations, Deputy Fire Marshals work daily with all types of professionals including law enforcement agencies and fire departments throughout the State of Idaho. Fire investigations are collaborative and often lengthy ensuring compliance with current investigative standards.
